"Several Thousand Protest Arpaio's Tent City."
The Associated Press argues that Tent City can seem to be harsh on inmates, but seems to be effective. He claims that housing inmates in tents sends a message to them. The Associated Press develops this claim by first addressing the critics of Joe Arpaio that were going to gather to call for a closure of Tent City. The Associated Press describes some of things Joe Arpaio did to inmates such as dressing inmates in pink underwear, housing inmates in hot Phoenix weather, and representing himself as a tough leader. Lastly the author uses a few of Joe Arpaio’s quotes to express his opinion. The Associated Press’s purpose is to inform readers on the protest of Tent City and brief explanation of Tent City. This work is significant because it includes quotes from Joe Arpaio and has some of the things inmates were forced to do.
